AdisseoThe Adisseo Research Grant (ARG), a €1 million global initiative?which focuses?on swine nutrition?this year, recently?selected three outstanding research projects for their scientific excellence and practical relevance. The three laureates of ARG 2025?are “Advancing Precision Feeding for Gestating Sows,”?“Understanding Piglets Appetite to Improve Welfare and Performance,”?and “Smarter Protein Nutrition Through Real-Time Monitoring.”
The “Advancing Precision Feeding for Gestating Sows”?program, carried out by the research team led by Dr. Jay Johnson, University of Missouri, the U.S., aims to redefine feeding strategies for gestating sows under heat stress by defining advanced modeling tools.?The?program seeks to increase efficiency and improve welfare while reducing the waste of resources and environmental impact.
The “Understanding Piglets Appetite to Improve Welfare and Performance”?program, carried out by the research team led by Prof. Nadia Everaert,?KU Leuven, Belgium, explores the biological mechanisms that drive appetite in piglets.?This research aims to?pave the way for innovative nutritional strategies that enhance productivity while supporting animal welfare, encouraging the adoption of humane practices in piglet farming.
The “Smarter Protein Nutrition Through Real-Time Monitoring” program is carried out?by the research team led by Prof. Jeroen Degroote at Ghent University, Belgium.?By monitoring individual responses, it?allows for precise protein supply, improved feed efficiency, and reduced nitrogen emissions, thereby supporting the sustainable transformation of the livestock industry.
Progress in animal production is?driven by sci-tech research and industrial collaboration.?Launched in 2018 and now in its third edition, the ARG goes beyond providing financial support. It acts as a catalyst for collaboration between academia and industry, enabling researchers to turn innovative ideas into practical solutions and jointly build a more sustainable, efficient, and responsible livestock sector.
